Over the last two years, Julie and I have had the amazing experience of working as instructors at Overland Expo, North America’s largest gathering of overland and adventure travelers – first at OvEx East in Asheville, North Carolina, and again at OvEx West in Flagstaff, Arizona.

I’m happy to share that starting in November 2017, I have joined the team at Overland Expo as their new Logistics Manager. Working remotely from our current home base of Gaborone, Botswana, I’ll be helping OvEx wrangle thousands and thousands of independent-minded adventurers, sponsors, and exhibitors into the comprehensive whole that is the Expo.

I feel very fortunate, as it’s not every day you find a job that supports and mirrors your passions, find a company you can believe in, and find colleagues you’re excited to work with. Be sure to check out Overland Expo Directors Jonathon and Roseann Hanson’s charitable work at ConserVentures – they have found some unique ways to give back to the communities we travel to around the world.

If you’re in the US in May 2018, join us from the 18th-20th at Ft. Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff for OvEx West – tickets are on sale now. There’s no better event to help you, as we say at OvEx, “get equipped, get trained, get inspired – get going”. The world is waiting.

But wait, don’t hit the road yet, there’s more!

Last year, Julie published an excellent article in SA4x4: Overland Adventure magazine about our trip to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Next month, we will be back on assignment again with SA4x4 as we explore the western reaches of Botswana and South Africa’s Kalahari Desert, the dunes and mountains of Namibia, and beyond.

Most of our route has gelled, but we are still working out some of the final details. I’ll have more on this Christmas-time adventure in future blog posts, but you can get a rough idea of where we’re headed by checking out my Google map.
